This tells of a raid in Haltwhistle in Northumberland by the Armstrongs from Liddesdale in Scotland that resulted in the death of Sim o’ the Cathill, an Armstrong. The Warden of the English Middle March, Sir Robert Carey, accompanied by two hundred horsemen struck back at the Armstrongs and carried off their goods, which were distributed amongst the Haltwhistle people who had suffered. ![]() Dermitalen https://www.uia.archi/hu/dermitalen-control-a-mycosis-ellen-akcio-osszetevok-velemenyek-hol-lehet-megvasarolni/ End of Mycosis! ![]() A
second Armstrong raid on Haltwhistle followed. The Warden and his men
set up camp in Liddesdale but they feared they wouldn’t be able
to withstand a strong attack from the Armstrongs. So Warden Carey’s
forces were divided and lay in wait for the Armstrongs at three of their
escape routes. False ambushes had been laid and in the following attack
the Armstrongs were beaten. Five of the principal Armstrongs were captured
and held hostage. Carey extracted harsh terms on the hostages. The English
prisoners were liberated and much of the looted sheep and cattle were
retrieved. |
